the moment i found out about shawn i was speechless, i first found him on youtube a few years back it was one of his videos posted by Myshawnlanevideos by Will .J from that moment i was obsessed with shawn from that day Shawn would become part of of my daily routine of coming back from school now college and listening to Shawn and never have his talent ever not impressed me no matter how much i listen to him i am still impressed there is just no limit to shawn's ability.
The thing i like most about shawn is his unique ability of playing super fast but with feel and emotion, i read comments on all his videos posted on youtube and nearly everyone postes saying he is the pinicle of guitar and he must be the best.
I also love his work on the piano and the keboard, the way he plays the piano is amazing i watched a video of him yesterday in murphes bar in 1994 playing guitar and keyboard and he blew my mind with his ability to play both instruments with such passion.
i am obsessed and i would love to know how my hero inflienced you.

Cool note: I don't know if it was willjay or someone else close to Shawn (I can't remember the name) but about 20 years ago, I contacted somebody and this person made me a VHS compilation of Shawn. It has some early BOA stuff, the insane white strat shredroom fest, mixed cover songs and then the Famous Musicians Instutitute gig. All on one VHS !!! Paid like $10 or $15 dollars (US) for it. Best value I've I've ever purchased. I have always cherished it. Needless to say, my musician friends usually don't even know what to think or say when i show them some highlights. Usually speechless. Whomever it was, THANKS AGAIN !. This site RULES by the way. RIP Shawn

I saw a video of Shawn Lane doing a diminished lick on youtube and immediately looked for any way to purchase his instructional videos. I never looked at a guitar the same way again the day I realized how great of a talent Shawn was. At first it was just me drooling over technique... but his music has changed me. Anyone who is fortunate enough to be a fan knows what I mean.

I got into Shawn because I'm a huge Buckethead fan, and it instantly changed my approach to guitar playing. His playing was so tasteful, and even though he could play so incredibly fast, he was reserved and pulled it out only when it was the right time to do it. His very positive attitude, despite his ailments is very inspirational too. I get choked up listening to his music at times

shawn has inspired me to improve me phrasing, improv, and therefore he has impacted the way I compose and play more than any musician I can think of. He showed he what's possible with guitar with songs like Aga of the Ladies, and opened up a whole world of possibilities.

Shawn has influenced me in many ways...most significantly through his phrasing; I now attempt to convey a similar blend of melancholy and resonating joy, whilst retaining my own musical identity.

Of course, I can't do it quite like Shawn did, but his music opened my mind to that heavily melodic style of playing, and for that I am eternally grateful.
